Tuning membership functions of kernel fuzzy classifiers by maximizing margins

چکیده
We propose two methods for tuning membership functions of a kernel fuzzy classifier based on the idea of SVM (support vector machine) training. We assume that in a kernel fuzzy classifier a fuzzy rule is defined for each class in the feature space. In the first method, we tune the slopes of the membership functions at the same time so that the margin between classes is maximized under the constraints that the degree of membership to which a data sample belongs is the maximum among all the classes. This method is similar to a linear all-at-once SVM. We call this AAO tuning. In the second method, we tune the membership function of a class one at a time. Namely, for a class the slope of the associated membership function is tuned so that the margin between the class and the remaining classes is maximized under the constraints that the degrees of membership for the data belonging to the class are large and those for the remaining data are small. This method is similar to a linear one-against-all SVM. This is called OAA tuning. According to the computer experiment for fuzzy classifiers based on kernel discriminant analysis and those with ellipsoidal regions, usually both methods improve classification performance by tuning membership functions and classification performance by AAO tuning is slightly better than that by OAA tuning.

Fuzzy Classifiers Based on Kernel Discriminant Analysis
In this paper, we discuss fuzzy classifiers based on Kernel Discriminant Analysis (KDA) for two-class problems. In our method, first we employ KDA to the given training data and calculate the component that maximally separates two classes in the feature space. Then, in the one-dimensional space obtained by KDA, we generate fuzzy rules with one-dimensional membership functions and tune the slope...
متن کاملMultiobjective genetic fuzzy rule selection of single granularity-based fuzzy classification rules and its interaction with the lateral tuning of membership functions
Multiobjective genetic fuzzy rule selection is based on the generation of a set of candidate fuzzy classification rules using a preestablished granularity or multiple fuzzy partitions with different granularities for each attribute. Then, a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm is applied to perform fuzzy rule selection. Since using multiple granularities for the same attribute has been sometim...

This paper introduces a novel control methodology based on fuzzy controller for a glucose-insulin regulatory system of type I diabetes patient. First, in order to incorporate knowledge about patient treatment, a fuzzy logic controller is employed for regulating the gains of the basis Proportional-Integral (PI) as a self-tuning controller. Then, to overcome the key drawback of fuzzy logic contro...
متن کاملTuning of fuzzy logic controller using an improved black hole algorithm for maximizing power capture of ocean wave energy converters
Seas and oceans are the most important sources of renewable energy in the world. The main purpose of this paper is to use an appropriate control strategy to improve the performance of point absorbers. In this scheme, considering the high uncertainty in the parameters of the power take-off system in different atmospheric conditions, a new improved black hole algorithm is introduced to tune fuzzy...
متن کاملFine Tuning of Membership Functions for Fuzzy Neural Systems
This paper presents a new method for fine-tuning the Gaussian membership functions of a fuzzy neural network (FNN) to improve approximation accuracy. This method results in special shape membership functions without the convex property. We first recall that any continuous function can be represented by a linear combination of Gaussian functions with any standard deviation. Therefore, the Gaussi...
